3/19/2017 0 Comments Getting Back to RealityHappy Monday! Or should I say super freaking sad and unmotivated Monday, I am struggling to even get out of bed! It's very rainy today, starting to storm actually (which isn't helping my laziness) so today kind of sucks.
So vacation was wonderful, I shopped, indulged in food, and spent a great amount of time of simply relaxing. However, all good things come to an end and that being no more laying on a beach and getting my butt back to school. Luckily, I don't have class at 8am or anything too crazy during the week, so waking up extremely early all week isn't a problem, but this week I begin my part time jobs as well, so that will keep me busy. I have yet to work yet while in school so I am a little nervous about time management. Since I am laying in bed being a bum still not back into the mindset of normality again, I decided to come up a few tips of how I fall back into real life activities that many could be useful to you. 1. Finding that perfect wake and sleep cycle again. Going on vacation somewhere in a different time zone makes this ever so difficult, but you'll feel much more at ease if you can find your typical sleeping times again. 2. End the over self indulging of food. I'm not sure about everyone, but at least for myself I pig out while on vacation.. but wait don't I do that when I'm not on vacay too? But really! Eating junk or any foods all day long aren't the best choice. Get back to eating at your usual meal time and try to maybe even start a new diet if you're really feeling motivated! 3. I know this is so hard, but fully unpack and get your room/home back together. It's my favorite to just let me luggages, bags, clothes, shoes, etc to lay around all over my room for a week or two, but the clutter is really too distracting. Find the time shortly after arriving home to put all the items back into place. You'll feel more organized, cleaner, and won't have to worry about digging through the pile of clothes on the floor to find that one shirt you can't find anywhere. My room which is actually Adam's room I just kind of took it over is SO messy from unpacking and I am hating myself for it. Don't pull a me! 4. Don't come back from vacation unmotivated! Come back in a positive, upbeat mood. Ready to take on anything coming your way and possibly even more on top of things than before you left. Like I said above, starting a new diet, finding more time for working out, or starting a new hobby are all great ways to change things up. If you're in school like me, keep working hard we are almost to summer break! Once again, I am also very unmotivated today, classes start back up today and I just don't want to move! So dig deep and find the energy to get yourself going again! xoxo, mackenzie

3/16/2017 0 Comments Picky EatingWoo! It's Thursday which means it's almost the weekend, which also is closer to Saturday (when I head back home from vacay) so is this a good or bad thing? Who knows, but anyways this trip has involved so much freaking food that it gave me an idea for a blog -> my ways of eating. If you're someone who knows me (99% of you are not), but if you were you'd know that I am THE BIGGEST picky eater. I literally have the smallest range of food that I'll eat and really never venture out. When it comes to breakfast foods I am an addict. I could eat breakfast 24/7. Whenever someone says, "what sounds good to eat" my mind usually shifts to breakfast food, but then I remember not everyone is obsessed with it like I am so I say something more practical. I am a big fan of waffles, pancakes, french toast, omelettes, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches of course. If I am lazy it often times comes down to a bowl of cereal, but if I am feeling wild sometimes I'll make some toast with butter and jelly on it (ONLY STRAWBERRY) and sometimes cut up some fruit. Strawberries, bananas, oranges (cuties in specific), grapes, apples, and recently pineapple are some of my favorite fruits. I've found that I love cutting up strawberries and bananas and eating them together. I'm so OCD that I'll even try to cut up the same amount of each, crazy right? So breakfast wasn't too picky, right? I have a wide range of things I'll eat for breakfast so I think that's why it's my favorite. Lunch and dinner are when it gets a little more complicated. I like most kinds of meat, including chicken, pork, beef, but no fish. The only seafood piece of food I'll eat is fried shrimp. I throughly enjoy pasta, spaghetti and fettuccine alfredo are the top choices. Typically during a week at school I eat a lot of frozen pizza, breadsticks, salad, and too many frozen/microwave meals. Side wise, I LOVE mac-and-cheese, I literally could have it every single day. I like corn, potatoes, rolls, basically anything with carbs. I've come to enjoy spinach and kale in smoothies or in a salad, and in my salads there is almost nothing - lettuce, cheese, croutons, and catalina dressing only. I mainly live off of chicken, pizza, pasta, breadsticks, salad, and bad for you snacks. Here's some fun facts: -All burgers I get are completely plain with only cheese (sometimes bacon) -I don't eat meat in my spaghetti sauce -My chicken/pork/beef either has to be plain or very lightly lightly sauced -I don't eat any green beans, peas, carrots, or basically any vegetables that are decent for you -I will only eat catalina dressing, by that I mean I will literally take a bottle from home to the restaurant -My food cannot be mixed -I have ordered mainly off of the kids menu from the ages of 12-18 -I hadn't had steak until the summer before 8th grade -I just now on this vacation tried peaches, pineapple, raspberries, sweet potatoes, apple fritters, Thai food, and even ate some shrimp -I LOVE corn on the cob The worst part of being a picker eater overall is hearing each new individual you come into contact with comment on what you're eating/not eating and then try and shove all these new foods you really don't want to try into your mouth. Or going out to eat at a fancy restaurant.. that is the real struggle. Here I'll be at a five star restaurant with food that I'm sure is out of this world, yet I'll just want chicken fingers. Or another good one is having the family make me a totally separate meal from theirs. I wouldn't say it's embarrassing because that's just how I am and I'm used to it, but it does make many things a little challenging. Yes, I suck. So to end, I am a weird eater that basically eats the same thing each week. Luckily, my metabolism hasn't caught up to me yet, lord help me the day it does. xoxo, mackenzie 3/15/2017 1 Comment LA/Hollywood VisitSo if you happened to read my packing or spring break blog, you were aware that I was heading out for vacation this week. I was lucky enough (thanks to Adam having family in California) to be able to visit Hollywood, LA, and San Diego while here. Now day 6, I am very worn out, yet still so excited to be out here. My spring breaks in the past were all to Florida so getting the chance to go somewhere new was wonderful. While here I have done TONS of shopping, walked probably over 10 miles, eaten some amazing food, and soaked up some sun (a little too much to be exact.)
It is currently Thursday and so far I have eaten 2 amazing donuts from a donut shop here in San Diego and that's as much as I've accomplished today. I also am quite burnt in a few places from laying on the beach yesterday, but hey anything to get a tan! Anyways, let me fill you in on some of the trip! We arrived at LAX on Friday around 9am and have been going ever since. The first 3 days of the trip were spent exploring through LA and Hollywood and I cannot tell you how amazing it was. I was SO overwhelmed when we first arrived. Not only is Cali huge compared to my home, but this was my first vacation without my family. That may sound so lame, but it's a much different feel being on your own and doing whatever you please without a parent or such there. We wandered through LA the first day checking out some stores, a little farmers market, the famous Canter's Deli, and then explored on Melrose and Fairfax Ave. So if you have no idea what those streets are, basically they're full of little shops, unique stores, and restaurants. Very neat to experience!! Throughout the next few days I got to take a trip down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, shop till my wallet was crying, eat so much that I wanted to throw up, and simply enjoy life with Adam. We had no agenda while in LA so being able to come from the hotel to places around town was great. I've eaten SO FREAKING MUCH on this trip, no doubt I will return home a few pounds heavier than when I left! But I guess eating all sorts of food is what happens while on vacation right?! From waffles, chicken tenders, shrimp, burgers, deli sandwiches, french fries, to steak, I'm feeling like I've had just about everything! I have shopped a ton while here, which is what I saved up for I suppose, but I am still wondering how I will get it all back home! My suitcase was already full when we left so we will see how that goes. In conclusion, Cali has been so much fun. I've tried a few new foods which if you don't know me I am THE biggest picky eater, so new things are good. I've stumbled upon some great clothes and shoes, spent so many fun hours with Adam, received a bit of an eye opener on life, and have been able to simply relax. With just 3 days left I am begging for time to slow down! :( xoxo. mackenzie 3/9/2017 1 Comment Packing ListOne of my most favorite things to do when taking a trip is overpacking. I swear, even if I tell myself that I MUST pack lightly, it never happens. Typically whenever I've gone somewhere in the past it has been somewhere that my family or friends and I drive to. I've only flown two times, once I was so young that I no way packed my own bags and the other time, I had a suitcase full, a duffel bag, and a backpack. So like I mentioned in the spring break blog, I am heading to California for a week and we are flying. Not only are we not allowed to have a carry on with this airline, but my suitcase also has to be under 40 lbs. So packing light I suppose you could say has been a real thing for this trip. I typically like to take outfits for all occasions and take way too many of each thing, but for this trip I am really trying to cut back. So here's my list for this trip!
Shorts - 2/3 pairs Jeans - hopefully one pair Denim skirt (really into denim skirts these days, weird or no?) Dresses - 2 Tops - (I've got probably 5-6 at the moment) Shoes - at least 5 pairs (have to be prepared for anything right?) Underwear & Bras (my motto is "pack as many as ya want" since they don't take up too much room) Make up bag (which weighs 5 lbs itself) Swimsuit - 1 pair of bottoms + 2 tops Medications (currently on 3 so my pill case is full!) The random items (think of this as deodorant, body wash, perfume, etc.) Hair products (consists of a hair dryer, straightener, brush, comb, hair gel, hairspray, shampoo & conditioner) Purse - (limited myself to taking just one purse and one wristlet) Chargers - (for phone, laptop, headphones, and fitbit.. however, I cannot find my fitbit charger anywhere and I am FREAKING OUT) Laptop Coloring books (I've got a secret obsession with coloring) I'm sure I've got so much more thrown into my bags, but I think that's mostly everything. The plan was for Adam and I to be ready this morning before class (meaning the car packed up) so we didn't have to go back after class. However, I am a slacker and of course wasn't ready this morning. Between trying to cram for my test, needing to shower, eat, and finish packing I barely made it to class. So I got a couple eye rolls from Adam today for not being ready when we planned ;) I've got one more quiz before I am officially on break and I couldn't be more anxious! After class, Adam and I will be heading to Chicago, sleeping, getting up around 3:30/4, and flying out at 6. So many exciting things coming and I'm in much need of the break! Can't wait to blog more about the trip, until then enjoy your breaks! xoxo, mackenzie 3/8/2017 0 Comments Spring BreakHappy Wednesday!! Or "hump day" if you prefer, either way Friday is almost here!
So spring break for IU is this coming week and I think I can say on behalf of all students, that we are all SO ready for a break. For me, the exams are done with tomorrow at 3:45, that's right.. just one more day! Typically, I would be planning for a trip to the beach (somewhere in Florida) however, this year I going somewhere new (to me) and different than previous years. Where am I heading you may ask? Drum roll please... California! Adam, having family in California has been too many times to count and I've been dying to tag along since we've been together. Therefore, since neither of us had plans for a vacation this year, we decided we would finally go to Cali together. While there we will be visiting L.A. and San Diego for sure, but possibly more. We will be in the gorgeous state for 8 days and I am too excited for the warm weather! Luckily, we both are done with finals at the same time on Thursday, so we are heading out right after. The most obvious airport to fly out of for us is Indy, however Adam found that if we flew out of Chicago that we could have a direct flight and pay MUCH less, so we're doing it. Although the 4 hour drive to Chicago is a little rough, it adds a little more adventure to the trip. What I am most nervous for isn't having to meet more of Adam's family, but to fly. I have been freaking myself out all week over it and I'm sure it will only get worse the closer we get. All week I have been stressed out of my freaking mind trying to get everything done before we leave. With all the exams, studying is a must and I've also had so many assignments due this week as well. I made myself a "to do" list at the beginning of the week and almost died when I realized my list was 15 tasks long. But, here we are 2 days after creating the list and I am down to just 5 things! With already having a tad bit of anxiety, felt like I was drowning this week. I was so anxious to get it all done and totally freaked myself out that I wouldn't get it all done. Let me fill you in on my day yesterday. So to start off the morning, I woke up feeling awful so I went to the clinic to discover I had a viral infection. After leaving the clinic, I was headed home and with my bad luck, got pulled over. GO FIGURE. I somehow made it out of that with no ticket, thank the lord. Anyways, I have made it through the past 3 days and cannot wait to get out of here for a week! Also, if you happened to read my blog about my jobs, I have accepted a position at Macy's! I am very eager to start or maybe eager to start having some money I should say ;) I train tonight at Macy's, have an assignment to do before midnight, a test to study for, AND am hoping to also find time to get my fake tan on. Whether or not that all will get done, who knows, but wish me luck! I can't wait to share the details of my trip and hope if you're reading this and have a spring break vacation planned that it is great for you and your friends/family! xoxo, mackenzie 3/1/2017 0 Comments PromHappy Sunday!
So through my time here at college, I have noticed at some points myself looking at others and feeling old. Now I am nothing near the term "old" yet when I see others still in high school I suddenly feel so old these days! But who am I kidding, I was literally JUST in high school. One of the things that kind of sunk in and made me feel old, is prom. There's no more proms for me! As lame as it sounds, I was a sucker for all things prom. The shopping, the planning, the whole night leading up to prom, and the night itself was my absolute favorite. I decided that although I'm too "old" for prom, I'd post a bit about it and maybe leave some tips! The top tip I have is despite being set on a certain style when shopping, TRY ON ANYTHING & EVERYTHING. Even if you are a mermaid girl like I was for 3 years, try on all sorts of styles! You literally never know what the dresses you think are terrible will look like on you and you just might be surprised! While I was shopping for my dream mermaid gown, I saw the big pink dress seen above and laughed at how obnoxious it was.. guess who ended up buying & wearing that dress to prom? When it comes to dress shopping, I notice many girls can't help but go with the same exact style that their friends are wearing. Their friends wear a mermaid, so they were a mermaid. (No hate towards mermaid dresses, they are actually my FAVE.) But you get the idea, so what I am trying to get at is be different! Choose a dress that will be an eye catcher and one many will remember! If you've got the best dress at prom, you best believe everyone will be complimenting you and what's better than a generous compliment? Another key tip to shopping is location, know your price range and go from there. There's a difference between shopping for a designer dress such as Sherri Hill and shopping for a dress in the mall. (No hate towards mall shopping!!) Simply, know what you're looking for to avoid wasting your time in stores that aren't going to have what you're looking for. I had great success at Von Maur, Raelynn's in Greenwood, and B.Loved in Seymour. My biggest thing I learned from the prom going I did would have to be that each and every girl has their own opinion on styles of dresses. What's hideous to you may be another girls dream dress! So simple never tell someone their dress is ugly, just save your opinions! You wake up and do your thing on prom day and give only compliments to other girls. No one likes the girl that puts everyone else down! Senior year I wore the biggest dress I have ever worn in my life. (The huge pink dress pictured above.) I was SO nervous for the longest time thinking that I would look so weird in this huge dress, due to the trend being tight dresses and two pieces, but I realized I was in love with the dress and was so going to rock it. The dress (to me) was truly beautiful and best of all....I had pockets put in, what beats pockets?! Best of luck to all of the prom goers this year!! Have so so much fun, yet be safe. Spend your prom day being full of happiness, positivity, and work that dress like no other. p.s. be sure to check out the pictures above, prom transformations are real people! xoxo, mackenzie 3/1/2017 0 Comments How to Welcome Bad LuckIf you happen to be anything like me, bad luck literally waits at every corner for you. I for some reason just attract all sorts of madness. Let me give you a few examples..
So my advice? WELCOME THAT BAD LUCK WITH LAUGHTER. I used to curse the world for all the wrong that was happening in life, however now when things go wrong I simply laugh and move on. You will have those days where you entirely feel like the whole world is against you, but try to make the best of it. The gas experience I mentioned above? I immediately called my mom to tell her the story and we both laughed for a few minutes straight. Imagine sitting in your car and hearing this sound of water flowing, however, it's actually gas overflowing out of your gas tank. I will admit, that bad luck moment was a bit of a costly one! That same night I went to Walmart and once I reached the check out and had all of my items scanned, realized I had left my wallet in the car! Talk about embarrassing. So I walked outside, got my wallet, and while walking back inside heard someone say, "miss is that your wallet on the ground?" Sure enough I had dropped my wallet. That day was just not my day. So remember, bad luck totally sucks and isn't something anyone wants, things will get better! The job hunt I mentioned above, was awful for the 2 months of hearing nothing, but I now have 3 job offers and couldn't be happier! I'm almost too happy for the offers that I want to accept them all. I want to hear your bad luck stories if you've got them, so please comment below or shoot me an email on the contact page. xoxo, mackenzie k. |
